COLD WATER
 International Knitting Festivals

WHO ARE WE

COLD WATER KNITTING FESTIVALS came into being due to Fanø International Knitting Festival, founded by Christel and Jørgen Seyfarth in Denmark in 2005. Soon it became clear that this festival concept was quite successful. Today about 10.000 knitters visit the island of Fanø in September each year.

Fanø International Knitting festival was in 2015 contacted by businessman and tourism developer from Inverness in Scotland, Mr. Willie Cameron who was interested in a cooperation for a small knitting festival in the Highlands of Scotland, a “limited edition” knit fest.

Today, 4 years later, we successfully work together on Loch Ness Knit Fest, a joint cooperation between Fanø International Knitting Festival and “Planit Scotland”, led by Cecilia Grigor and her team. This festival  attracts knitters from more than 25 countries each year in October.

The same year of 2015, Fanø International Knitting Festival was also approached by the Norwegian family owned knitting firm, “Made by You”, owned by Inger Lise Neeraas and her sister Anne Lene Neeraas from Orkanger near Trondheim  and Johanna Palmirsdottir, director from the Textile center Textilsetur in Blondous in Iceland.

Both parties wished to share their ideas with Fanø International Knitting festival in order to set up knitting festivals in Norway and Iceland.

Soon arose the idea to join forces for developing a NORDIC KNIT LAB and exploring the similarities as well as the differences among these festivals. This was done with the assistance of the Danish destination developers and architects NORRØN from Copenhagen.

NORDIC KNIT LAB was supported by NORDISK KULTURFOND and within a year a new direction was made for Iceland and Norway, and together with Denmark, we have come up with new innovative ideas for organizing knitting festivals.

In 2019 we included Scotland and Loch Ness Knit Fest in our cooperation.
